Picturing the effects of drugs on the brain is one of the specialties of Cajal Illustration. Animations from the upcoming SAVANTES educational video on the brain and synaptic pharmacology of drugs of abuse were recently featured on "An ABC News Town Meeting, 'Kids... Parents ... Straight Talk on Drugs' with Peter Jennings" (March 1997) and can be downloaded from the impressive Cajal website. Don't miss the psychedelic wallpaper for biologists and botanists, and the artistic efforts of animator/neurobiologist Gayle Gross de Nunez.

Williams Burroughs is known for documenting his experiences with drugs in radically uncoventional and sometimes banned novels (Junky, Naked Lunch) and other writings. He also experimented with visual art: this image is from a Los Angeles County Museum of Art exhibit of his paintings, collages and mixed media work. The Burroughs Files is a good jumping off point for further exploration of his work.
