Art for Science?s Sake, Science for Art?s Sake
(Posted February 20, 1998 ? Issue 25)
"Images from Nature," an exhibition of drawings and paintings from the
library of the Natural History Museum in London, was held recently at Christie's gallery in London. More than seventy of the world's finest natural history artworks were on display, some for the first time. Selected from the museum's collection of half a million pieces, the exhibit included eighteenth-century paintings of Cook's first voyage to Australia by Sydney Parkinson, and
works by Ehret, the brothers Franz, and Ferdinand Bauer, as well as pieces
by contemporary artists.
