From head to toe and everywhere in between, The Visible Human Database is a resource for anatomical information for researchers, educators, medical professionals, and the general public. It draws on transverse CT, MRI and cryosection images of representative male and female cadavers at one millimeter intervals. This coronal image was compiled by the Center for Human Simulation at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center for the US National Librariy of Medicine. Mapping inner contours onto outer ones, photographer Tatiana Porcero explores the human body in this Inner Cartography series. Her imagery has a visceral quality found in Mexican religious icons and the paintings of Frida Kahlo. She is one of over a dozen artists featured at The Mexican Cultural Institute of New York Virtual Gallery, a non-profit branch of the Mexican Consulate in New York working to further a greater awareness of Mexico?s rich cultural legacy.
