Paul Freidlander searches not for proteins, but for patterns of light floating on air. A visual artist with a love of physics and a background in stage lighting, he creates ethereal sculptures from beams of chromastrobic light playing on strands of spinning string. Major commissions include a fiber optic "burning bush" for British Telecom in London; his website features more light sculptures, plus a working demo of his own image-generating software, Zip Art.
