Pierre De Meyts, M.D., Ph.D., a.k.a. Chuck, when he is not drawing
cartoons, is Director of the Hagedorn Research Institute in Gentofte, near
Copenhagen, Denmark. His main field of research is receptors and signal
transduction by insulin, insulin-like growth factors and growth hormone.
After medical school in Belgium, he trained at the NIH with Jesse Roth and
worked in Brussels and Los Angeles before settling in Denmark in 1990. He
started drawing cartoons as a teenager, illustrating songs in a pop music
magazine, and became a well known political cartoonist in Belgium during
the student upheavals of the late sixties and early seventies. He then
turned to satirical interpretations of scientific issues, some of which
have been published in Nature, Trends in Biochemical Sciences, Trends in
Pharmacological Sciences and various Symposia books. Email: pdm@hrl.dk or
