• Sharon Bardach Blumenstein was diagnosed with MDS, Refractory anemia, with excess blasts, in August, 1999. She and her family tried to find a donor in the registries and managed to add several thousands donors to the registries. However she could not find a donor and had a cord blood transplant at the University of Colorado in March, 2000.

• Brian Zikmund-Fisher was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (RA-MDS) in February, 1998. He had a BMT with a matched unrelated donor in May, 1999 at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Brian has established a fund to pay for DR Typing with The HLA Registry Foundation. Brian's wife Naomi has written a book Across the Chasm which chronicles her day-to-day life, as she struggled to care for Brian, raise a young child and maintain her sanity. With humor and candor, she offers a vivid picture of the emotions and challenges caregivers face. Across the Chasm is published by the BMT InfoNet.

• The Waystation, John Wentworth's tribute to his wife, Christine Raimondi Wentworth, who passed away July 31, 1998 after a BMT for myelodysplasia, caused by previous cancer treatment.

• John Howarth's " An Unexpected Journey", his story of his diagnosis with Myelofibrosis in 1998 and his subsequent transplant at Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant program of Vancouver General Hospital. John lives in Prince George, British Columbia.
